About The Event

Creative Cluster is a 10-week course based on the book “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron for people living with HIV. Who should take this course? “You haven’t created anything in years. You are not sure you can call yourself a writer, painter, designer, actor, dancer, etc. You wonder if you deserve to do the work you dreamed of.” You feel stuck in a relationship, career, living with HIV, etc. You want to get unstuck. There is a creative person living inside of you, but you have been too afraid to let them out or maybe you grew up in a family that didn’t encourage or allow you to be creative. Maybe it is time to take a chance and let that creative person have a voice. What better way to try than to do it within the context and support of a group of people who are looking for the same thing. “The Artist’s Way” is a journey that includes exercises that will help us explore our creative self.

The book “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron is required for participation. You can find it on Amazon here as a kindle, paperback, spiral-bound, or hardcover.

Facilitator

Peer-group facilitator, Mike Hartley, retired 2 years ago and moved to Palm Springs full-time from Honolulu, Hawaii. Mike has roots in the San Francisco Bay area and has been coming to Palm Springs for many years before relocating full-time. Mike served as the CEO of Hawaiiana Management Company, Ltd. for 11 years before retiring. In Hawaii, he served on the board of directors for the LIFE Foundation and was active in the Honolulu AIDS Walk. He has a masters’ degree from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary and a masters’ degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from San Francisco State University. He is HIV positive. He discovered “The Artist’s Way” a year and a half ago when someone recommended the book in a 12-step CODA recovery program that he attends.
