Áres Flores, East Valley Fellow

Áres Flores Silvestre was born in Hermosillo Sonora, Mexico and has now lived most of his life in the Coachella Valley. He was previously undocumented and was a foster youth until living in Indio for what is now 13 years. After graduating from Desert Mirage High School in 2018, Áres is attending classes at College of the Desert in addition to now working part time for The Center Coachella. Áres is passionate about his work enhancing and highlighting the fabulous queer community of the East Valley, his goal is always to empower and grow. Áres was previously a volunteer for two years with The Center, as well as with Alianza CV, where he has had the joy and responsibility of planning East Coachella Valley Pride. He is extremely excited and proud to have The Center Coachella be a reality! Áres is here to support, uplift, connect, plan, and program all sorts of spaces for youth and community, alongside Miguel Navarro, with great love, focusing on the ECV. Áres’s favorite color is yellow, he loves watching The Office, and he spends way too much money on his earring collection. In his free time he talks to his cranky angry cat in a high pitched baby-voice, which she sometimes responds to with teeth and claws, but it’s ok because she’s super cute and fluffy.
