An Illustrated Lecture by Prof. Ron Steen

Art Historian, Prof. Ron Steen present information dealing with the fact-based historical development and achievements of fine art produced by LGBTQ+ artists, exhibited and collected in Southern California from 1970 to the present. The statistical database will provide answers to…. Who are these 72 fine art LGBTQ+ artists and who are the finer art galleries that have supported and showcased their work? Who are the LGBTQ+ private collectors of this fine art work? Which fine art facilities and museums have exhibited and have additionally collected and are preserving and conserving this fine art for posterity? What are the mediums used and themes produced by these LGBTQ+ artists? What percentage of these LGBTQ+ fine art artists are also people of color? This development and achievements are, at-large, the historical legacy, of the LGBTQ+ community.
Prof. Ron Steen is a multi-degreed Art Historian & Art Educator working on the paintings of the Seventeenth Century Dutch master and ancestor, Jan Steen. He is a specialist, now retired, who conducted classes on European art from the Italian Renaissance through the twentieth century.
He was also an art and museum educator, critic, curator, former director of The Downey Museum of Art, and former instructor of art history at California State University at Fullerton, and UCLA Extension as well as Pasadena, Glendale, and Azusa city colleges. He has lectured in and/or toured adult students in local, national and international museum. He has conducted art study trips to Santa Barbara, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, and Europe.
Prof. Steen was a co-founding member of The Museum Educators of Southern California in 1977, and first president from 1979-1982. In 1982 Prof. Steen received the “The Outstanding Achievement in Museum Education” award, and in 1997 he received “The Founding President 1979-1982” award, both from the Museum Educators of Southern California organization. He is a member of the Fine Arts Committee at The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, Los Angeles.
Currently Prof. Steen is, as an art historian and advisor to collectors, researching, publishing, educating and maintaining a database on the topic of the development of representational Fine art in Southern California from circa 1970 to the present…………including the historical development of LGBT fine art artists: bar rooms to museum, which is the topic of this evening illustrated lecture.
