Mei Ling Tom
She/Her

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Mei Ling Tom developed a lifelong passion for education, community service, and cultural connection which guided her through her 30-year career in Special Education. During those three decades, she taught and supported students with diverse needs, earning a reputation for patience, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to helping every child thrive. Guided by the principle, “A moral commitment to honor each child’s identity while expanding their possibilities,” Mei Ling applied that ethic to individualized education plans, collaborative partnerships with parents and community organizations, and mentoring of fellow educators.

After relocating to Palm Springs, she began cultivating a new chapter centered on community engagement and organizational leadership. Her commitment to uplifting others led her to The L‑Fund, where she has served on the board for eight years. As Co‑Chair, she helps guide the organization’s mission to support cis, trans, and queer‑identifying lesbians in the areas of temporary financial crisis, education, the arts, and health and wellness.

Beyond her advocacy work, Mei Ling’s life is rich with creativity, movement and connection. She can often be found working at the Palm Springs Vintage Market, dancing hula, cooking and creating beautiful food, enjoying films and live music, and spending cherished time with friends and family- especially her beautiful daughter, son, and three grandchildren!
